Invest in the Downeaster - Pledge to Attend a Public Forum

Right now time is running out for the Downeaster train service. Federal funding to operate the Downeaster ends after 2008.

The State of Maine should invest in long-term funding in the Downeaster train as part of our overall state transportation network to cut air pollution and global warming emissions. That’s why Environment Maine is urging the State to make a commitment to fund the operation of the Downeaster this year and eventually to expand its service north to Brunswick and Lewiston-Auburn.

PACTS, a board that determines how federal transportation funds are spent in Southern Maine, will make a decision to either request millions of dollars for highway expansion or for mass transit, like the Downeaster. Let them know you want our money spent on transit, not highway widening!

The forum is Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7:00 pm at the Clarion Hotel (formerly the Double Tree) at 1230 Congress St, Portland, ME 04102.
