Save the Atlantic Salmon

Maine is home to the last wild Atlantic salmon populations in the United States, but the endangered fish are nearly extinct in the Kennebec and Androscoggin rivers, which provide key spawning habitat and migration routes. We’ve turned to the courts to protect the salmon and our natural heritage.

Program

Keep Maine's North Woods Wild

Gov. LePage wants to throw open the North Woods to development — threatening some of Maine’s most beautiful places, like the Rangeley Lakes and countless remote areas. But if enough Mainers speak out, we can convince the Legislature to reject his reckless plan.

Program

Get Maine Off Oil

The environmental costs of our oil dependence are out of control — from air pollution to accidents and spills to global warming. It's time to set Maine on a path to getting off oil for good. We can get there by convincing our leaders to improve the energy efficiency of our homes and businesses, move people and goods more efficiently, and transition to sustainable substitutes for oil.

Program

Clean Energy, Made in Maine

Maine needs to break its dependence on dirty, polluting energy sources. We’re working to put an initiative on the ballot in November 2012 to greatly expand clean energy in Maine. More wind, more solar, more energy efficiency — clean energy, made in Maine.

Program

Clean Air, Healthy Families

New EPA clean air standards will cut mercury pollution by 90% and save 46,000 lives each year. The coal industry and their friends in Congress are trying to roll back these standards, but we’re urging Congress to let the EPA do its job and move forward with its commonsense plan to protect public health.

Best of Maine: Acadia National Park

Our national parks have been called “America’s best idea,” and Acadia is living proof. Yet nearly 1,000 acres of land within Acadia National Park are privately owned and so vulnerable to development — and when the land comes up for sale, the park lacks the resources to purchase it. Our staff and members are working to ensure Acadia has the funding it needs to protect all of the land within its boundaries.
