New England is heading for an energy crisis. Indeed, it may have already begun. Energy prices are high and increasingly volatile. The region’s energy infrastructure is strained. The long-term outlook for oil and natural gas supplies is questionable. And our use of energy contributes to a variety of environmental and public safety problems, not the least of which is global warming.

America could generate all of its electricity from large central concentrated solar power plants; according to a report released today, On the Rise; Solar Thermal Power and the Fight Against Global Warming by Environment Maine. These solar thermal power plants covering an area of 100 by 100-miles in the Southwest, slightly more than what’s already been destroyed by strip mining for coal in America, could power the entire nation; while slashing global warming emissions.
